How To Put On LAPSS-PAK:
- Put arms through shoulder straps with the pack on the back (writing is on the top).
- Fasten belt across chest.
- Adjust the shoulder straps so that the top of the pack is at shoulder level.
How To Use LAPSS-PAK In The Water:
- The child should enter the water and be held at their buoyancy level in a vertical position.
(It is important to keep the child in the vertical position all the time).
- While holding their hands, tell the child to put their head back enough to rest it on
the LAPSS-PAK.
- With their head back have the child "run" or "ride a bicycle" while still holding their hands just
enough for balance. Very soon the child will get the idea of keeping their head back and running independently as in Figure A.
- Allow the child to stay in this position to gain confidence. Eventually the child will roll slightly forward.
This automatically encourages the child to use their hands as in Figure B.
- Eventually, the child will begin the "dog paddle." The LAPSS-PAK is now mostly
out of the water providing less and less support, so the child is actually swimming as in Figure C.
- The LAPSS-PAK is a TEACHING AID — not a safety device or PFD.
- Adult supervision is mandatory at all times.
My son loved his Lapss-Pak! It gave him the confidence he needed to feel
comfortable to be in water over his head. I loved it too because I knew he
was safe while he was learning to swim. Today, nearly 10 years after he
first used the Lapss-Pak, he is a wonderful swimmer. Thanks for the great
start with the Lapss-Pak! |
